New display name
JOINT STATEMENT Premier and Minister for Trade The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk Minister for Innovation and Tourism Industry Development and Minister for the Commonwealth Games The Honourable Kate Jones Tuesday, March 20, 2018 Premier launches free tickets for athletes and volunteers Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has today announced Village Roadshow will give all athletes and volunteers free access to their four Gold Coast theme parks during the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The Premier met with Village Roadshow CEO Clark Kirby and members of Movie World’s ‘Justice League’ cast to make the announcement at Parliament House today. “We want to make sure the 600,000 visitors who come to Queensland for the Games return in years to come,” the Premier said. “A big part of that revolves around partnering with local businesses to make sure athletes have a great experience while they’re here and share that with millions of people around the globe. “That’s why I’m proud to announce that Village Roadshow has agreed to give free access to their theme parks to all athletes and volunteers for the duration of the Games. “Any athlete or volunteer who, on a day off, wants to go to either Sea World, Movie World, Wet’n’Wild and Paradise Country will get free entry. “And today I’m looking forward to meeting Wonder Woman and the whole Justice League team along with some of our hard working volunteers to spruik this announcement - because it’s also about giving back to the people who have made the Games possible.” Commonwealth Games Minister Kate Jones said it was important to recognise the volunteers who had already started to work at Games venues in the lead-up to the opening ceremony. “We’ve trained more than 15,000 volunteers who are selflessly giving their time to make sure we deliver the best Commonwealth Games of all time,” she said. “It’s great that Village Roadshow have recognised them for their hard work as well. “What makes the Gold Coast such an important visitor destination is the variety of its tourism offering – from the natural beauty of the hinterland and the beaches, to the theme parks and the nightlife. “Village Roadshow are an important part of that mix and we’ll continue to work with them on tourism opportunities in the future.” Village Roadshow Theme Parks CEO Clark Kirby said Village Roadshow was Australia's largest theme park operator and he was proud to showcase the parks during GC2018. “We are excited to offer athletes and volunteers the opportunity to experience our world-class rides and attractions while they are here on the Gold Coast,” he said. “The parks will provide a great opportunity for athletes to simply relax and have some fun outside of the fierce competition taking place. “It is also a fantastic way for us to say thank you to the thousands of hard-working volunteers who will be helping throughout the period. Whombex
On 3/19/2018 at 8:47 PM, Roachie said: Once upon a time there was an attempt. They basically tore apart an old printer (amongst a few other things) and as you got inside there was a whole heap of dials and knobs you could play with (it looked like old terminals that controlled the ride). Then it started to break, then instead of fixing it, it was all just removed. When it first opened, the queue was only in this area. There was a queue sorter in this area, and they would only send enough down the walkway for the next ride. The theming inside the waiting room was that of an oil rig, with dials, gauges, switches and the like. There was a TV screen in there, and a video would roll, explaining that there was an emergency (building pressure?) and you had to evacuate the Giant Drop Oil Rig. The sliding door would then open and you'd be put onto the ride. Due to wear and tear and vandalisation, there were cages installed over the theming. Around this time, the line just started at the ride door (instead of the arch area) and the video was discontinued. There continued to be wear and tear and vandalisation in this room, leading to the theming being entirely replaced by a stainless steel wall plating in the later '00s. Popular Post New display name
SOMETIMES it pays to know who you’re sledging on social media. On the back of this week’s announcement by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk that all Commonwealth Games athletes and volunteers would receive free entry to Village Roadshow Theme Parks during GC2018, it didn’t take long for online cynics to come out in force. Amid cries that the offer would add more cars to the M1 and ignored year-round volunteers, one Facebook user asked: “Who’s really paying for this? Nothing is free.” When a couple of respondents suggested taxpayers would be footing the bill, Clark Kirby posted: “This is completely funded by Village Roadshow, not the State Government.” But Anne Wieland was having none of that. “Clark Kirby, you are hilarious,” she posted before adding: “Where did you get that idea? At no stage was it said that Village Roadshow was donating the free tickets, nor was Village Roadshow there to do any dual announcement as I am quite sure they would not miss a publicity opportunity. “Maybe you should go and ask The Chook just exactly who is paying for it.” Cue Clark Kirby’s contender for Facebook comeback of the year. “Hi there, Anne,” he replied. “I am actually the CEO of Village Roadshow Theme Parks and I can confirm we will be absorbing the full cost of this initiative. “I really hope people can accept this for what it is — a goodwill gesture to the athletes coming to our beautiful city and a thank you to the volunteers that make it possible. All the best.” Not surprisingly, the “foot in mouth” exchange drew howls of emoji laughter from other Facebook users. “Burned Anne, burned,” posted one, while another had a suggestion all social media users would be wise to heed before leaping into an online debate. “Anne Wieland, oh dear,” she posted. “You should have done your research before firing back.” From the GC Bulletin.

To be fair, it's only the same as how Coles and Woolworths generally copy each others ideas. Often, you have to copy your competitors in order to remain competitive! Brad2912
Why not change up your offer to provide a point of difference? Why not embrace the fact that there are more people on the vicinity (games venue literally next door to the park) and it’s QLD school holidays, weather still good, and extend opening hours to 7pm each night? Do something to be a point of difference...

MickeyD
What a lovely sounding Disneyland, if but forever only in a dream (or half a day once a year!) Written for a West Coast Audience no doubt but the story lost all credibility sighting Perth as the spot for a future DisneyDownunder.. bahahaha No offence Perth BUT at least you have cheap flights to Universal Singapore and (allegedly) the Internet to book your flights to get there🤣

There is no room in Joondalup for a Disney land to even be considered.
