Actually that is just how Gravity Group designs most of their coasters with one huge slab of concrete. Why this is the case I couldn’t tell you exactly but you can see this with all their other coasters. My guess is it is just easier to do it with one slab as a wooden coaster needs way more footings in the ground than a steel coaster. None of this are my photos I got them all from RCDB. For example here is a pic of Mine Blower at Fun Spot and Oscar’s Wacky Taxi from Sesame Places’ construction both by the same manufacturer. I also included Kentucky flyer from Kentucky kingdom to show the final product.5 points

Imagine using quickset for high load structures Gold Striker, Apocaypse and some other GCIs also use a big slab https://rcdb.com/10857.htm#p=40859 As do the premier spaghetti bowls because of how dense the supports are. https://rcdb.com/528.htm#p=1769 https://rcdb.com/544.htm#p=986 Remember, coaster foundations consist of a pile to a required depth, then a formed pilecap that joins them, then a pedestal (The bit people call "footers") on top of that which contains the hold down bolts that the actual column gets anchored to. For wooden coasters, you don't have big spaced out footers, you have heaps of little ones, so depending on the layout its easier to just lay a singular big slab than forming up hundreds of smaller footers that you're tripping over etc. With a nice flat slab its then an easy task to survey and position the chairs holding up the timber.4 points

I was thinking the same thing but if the native wildlife have moved in and its become such a sanctuary then I guess its hard to refute. Its crazy to think that Dreamworld would have any restrictions placed on them on what they wanted to do with land inside their own boundaries- but this is the world we live in currently. A return of some river cruise or boat ride would be a welcome return and a good family attraction- surely it would not be that expensive to do? Thrill rides are all well and good but the River Cruise is a much loved and lamented attraction and a return of it would be an excellent move by Dreamworld management. Along with a brand new Flume or water ride- these 2 attractions should be on top of Dreamworld's shopping list after the installation of the new coaster.4 points

In other breaking and related news- Dreamworld have announced a new swing ride to finally replace Wipeout. It should be installed by Boxing Day...Check out the video of it below!!! 😋3 points

That is all very true, but a posthole digger, and a couple bags of quick set cost less. Plus, if the footering is for some reason not in the right spot, its a lot easier to move a small hole than it is to break a large slab. You'd wanna hope they surveyed it correctly - but i guess also, woodie footerings are more forgiving than steel ones. My first thought was the sand would require the slab too. water dripping off every support, plus sea-breezes would easily undermine small footerings, so whether its how GG does it or not, a large slab kinda makes a lot of practical sense...3 points

what a load of crap. just buy another Rivals, and spend $20M on advertising - that's a much better use of coin, and will bring more in than another $30mil in ads!2 points

I'd love to see Dreamworld get a Hopkins / WhiteWater West style "Super Flume" to replace it. The same builder as Wild West Falls at Movie World. Obviously with a different layout though. Has very good capacity, can have different elements and I think it would be a great fit for the park if done right. It doesn't need to be the tallest or highest or full of gimmicks, but it needs to be a quality family attraction but still thrilling enough to appeal to many people and looking at the various manufacturers it stands out to me personally. Operations wise it's fairly simple as well2 points

1943, war-era sydney is not the 2020 sydney of today. You don't need to store 8 car passenger trains on prime harbour-side land... ...But you might as well because the entire siding is protected under NSW Heritage listings: https://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/heritageapp/ViewHeritageItemDetails.aspx?ID=48010222 points

A Log flume like the one at Phantasialand would be perfect.1 point

I don’t know how hard this would be but I think it would be really cool if they could relocate some of those amazing looking large palm trees around the park maybe in ocean parade or find space for them around Main Street. It would look really nice and provide some decent shade.1 point

Smaller scale B&M Hyper or RMC hybrid anyone? (US coaster enthusiasts took enough notice with Rivals, RMC did the same with Energylandia.)1 point

I would have gone with Steel Taipan Grey1 point

The creature cruise used the station area and part of the track footprint of the lil puff circus train that used to be there back when the area was village green Tower of terror and part of tiger island took up the rest of the old lil puff track circuit1 point

This is EXACTLY the kind of idea that I've had in mind. I just want the River Caves back and I can't anywhere else in the park they could fit. The Big Top has taken up a lot of space (not that I begrudge it's existence; it's been great for many major events and a good revenue raiser for the park and ensures that it remains viable for many generations to come. I'd just like a better balance between rides and venues).1 point

That would be a poor and shortsighted decision if they went that way. They haven’t shown to be adverse to running a water based ride post-TRR, they did run RHLR after the accident. Given WWW is back to be being a separate gate, they need a water ride of some sort in the main park. Summer on the Gold Coast doesn’t equate to not having any water attractions1 point

I don't think the Dreamworld is going to go near a water ride (rapids, logride, boat) for a very long time.. maybe some kind of water coaster like Pulsar or StormCoaster could be possible.1 point

Interesting, some factual inaccuracies and mainly rehashing information readily available. I find the title “the troubled history of DW” strange and somewhat silly however, given that apart from the final 2mins touching on the ownership changes, incidents and Longhursts’ dream/plan not occurring, the remainder of the video has no relevance to “troubled history”.1 point

About as far as possible from the family demographic they need to appeal to.1 point

I really don’t think AA will open again, ever. She’s had her last circuit. She’s moved into CorkSeaScrewViper territory where upkeep and maintenance now exceeds any ROI, especially with the massive revenue hit parks are facing this year1 point

They should replace the log ride with another well themed log ride. The park needs family rides and it desperately needs water attractions. doesn’t need a thrill gimmick but certainly needs a good family pleaser1 point

Hi Alex, I understand your frustration. I can tell you one thing that we have zero control over what this site does or how they carry out their buisness. Richard I believe is the man, he is very strong in his views and that’s why I respect him and engage him when I can. Okay so a lot of people reached out to me, I had zero issue with anything being said here, the reason why I am here is to answer questions that people may have if I can without compromising myself. Hi There, unfortunately do I care no, but if someone does make deliberate and ridiculous statements then I will act on it by first talking to them and if it does not work then I will use legal avenues only to set the record straight. I have no issues in copping the heat but I do have an issue when there is false news being spread and people are being a bully. That is not on, I feel in many ways that I should eradicate bullying because I can. Hi Alex, it’s hard to say it all here. In a bit she’ll, I have not seen my kids grow up as I worked every single holiday and Christmas Day from morning to night as that’s who I am. The world thought my wife was a single mum. It was and still is hard as I don’t have much of a connection except I meet my responsibilities with the kids. It’s tough but I did this because I cared about the people I worked with and the guests and the industry. I am not looking for a pat on the back but I am still the person i was when I first started out, those same people still work in the buisness and they were the ones that trained me, btw they still clip me hard if I do something silly, and I am ok with that. I also understand that in my position, I walk with a target on my back and people will attack me and that’s ok. Saying this, if there is malicious content out there, and if it is bought to my attention, I will first talk to the person responsible and then do what i need to. If they are right then I will correct myself and accept the public outcry. Hope this helps mate.1 point

The Rocky Hollow Log Ride was a staple for almost every family trip of mine to Dreamworld. I have fond memories riding it as a young kid, being terrified of that very meagre final plunge. I even remember riding it with members of the family that don't normally partake in other attractions, such as my grandparents. Call it nostalgia but the best replacement is just a flume. It's a staple of a Theme Park experience, with the worlds most well regarded parks all having an installation of some sort. Each and every family member, from the young to the young-at-heart, are all able to enjoy the experience. The most exciting prospect to me is that a flume attraction offers Dreamworld an opportunity to reintroduce well-themed environments and exciting stories to it's guests; Flumes can be quite underwhelming without a keen appreciation for themed entertainment. Is this the most exciting concept? Is it the most flashy? Absolutely not, but I do not believe that it has to be. Not every addition to a park needs to be the brightest, most modern or the most daring. The last thing Dreamworld needs is to be on the "Bleeding Edge"; What they need what is proven to work, what already meets their existing market and what fills the gap in their lineup.1 point

I think a lot of people need to turn off the computer and go for a nice walk in the sunshine. This isn't a storm in a teacup, it's a hurricane in a thimble. Get some perspective about how unimportant this stuff is. For the record, we weren't contacted by anyone, we as a group read the posts and thought it was a dumpster fire. The options were delete the lot, lock the thread or take out as must of the off topic as possible. We went with deleting the posts. We'll go back and restore any that got deleted that were on topic, but it's a tangled mess of shit.1 point

I must have slipped into a coma and missed it all as I didn’t see pages of crap. I saw a couple of unsavoury comments and accusations that sure, overstepped a boundary and deserved to be deleted, but from my memory there was a solid amount of good, informative content prior to that, and even with it....1 point

Why’s everyone fighting over a removed forum this was about park reopening updates. not attacking others and letting out your personal grudges1 point

I don’t think they should get a water coaster in that form as it’s very similar to storm unless they give it really elaborate and unique theme.1 point

Yay another thread! I think lots of people would agree with the MACK Power Splash but I do want to see a family water thrill ride with decent theming and animatronics similar to Wild West Falls but more modern.1 point
