  1. We know for certain its you so please don't fly off the handle at someone suggesting it. And yes, of course we have proof.

  2. The whole area is looking great now, but stage 2 doesn't seem to have begun yet.

  4. I don't think Sea World announcing the closure of Viking's Revenge on the same day as Dreamworld's reopening was Village trying to steal a headline, it's them trying to bury the story. It's not like 'We've closed an iconic ride for a new attraction in 3 years' is a good message after all

  5. That tree shits me. Trees should grow perpendicular to the ground. Stupid tree.

  6. I got some photos from the construction today, it's pretty much the same.

  7. I just don't see VRTP investing in moving SurfRider. For every investment there must be type of ROI, what do you realistic gain by moving it to SW. sure SW gains a much needed extra ride, but it's not new, it's not a ride that will bring extra people to the park in anyway, and it robs another park of an attraction that is generally well utilised.

  8. This. I have good reason to believe that this ride's current closure has a lot to do with its location and proximity to TRR. Whilst I agree that yes, given the type of ride it is and it's age, it's future does look grim. But I wouldn't consider it a write off just yet. Big decisions are still to be made about this particular corner of the park. Also worth noting that the fencing being put up around it may also help to ease guest's minds. The RHLR is very similar to TRR in many ways, and seeing it (even whilst it's out of operation) may remind them of a certain situation that DW is trying to move on from. Out of sight, out of mind. Yes, knowing that the park has previously has sought the advice of psychologists and what not, I do believe these decisions are the follow-up of advice which is to assist in helping both the park and it's guests to recover and move forward. It all makes complete sense to me ?

  9. Surfrider should 100% stay at Wet n' Wild. When i went there on Monday, you could see it from everywhere in the park. It makes some perfect photos. With Surfrider and then you see the Tornado and Blackhole on either side. Its iconic at Wet n' Wild.

Remember everyone, you can click the link below and add whichever Tom, Dick or Harry you want to it: http://www.parkz.com.au/forums/ignore/ As it stands, there are no active members with the names Dick and Harry. Back on topic, thanks for the report @axltk421. I know the staff have all had training on responding to a wide range of guests comments and interaction, but it's good to hear they're so enthused and professional.

  13. From 7 News: So it looks like Sea World do have plans, and seeing it's two years after MW's coaster it could be big. Definitely many opportunities for Sea World here, if they're only using the land from Vikings I'm thinking along the lines of a family attraction or a small thrill ride. Looking forward to any details we get (although still waiting on MW's announcement ? )

  14. You think they will tear down the mountain and then build a new one? I reckon there is two chances of that happening, none & buckley's.

  15. Okay, I just went into wet n wild and got some photos on the way out, there seems to be what looks like two cherry pickers and a crane on the ground. As I was inside, it looked like stairs leading up to the slide were being pulled apart. Could they be closing it?? In other news, the aqua racer is still at the same place it has been for a while.

  17. What a very New Zealander thing to say. Sea World seem to have decided to go exclusively after the parents with very young kids demo at the expense of everything else. The way they're doing that isn't to build more stuff that appeals to that group, it's to let everything that doesn't fade away to nothing. I get the feeling Sea World management would be happier if it were a 70acre luxury resort with animals rather than a theme park. What's shocking to me is that the park is being so poorly run yet the management team get to persist. I've seen people get fired from Village for far less serious things than taking one of the most profitable and iconic parks in the country and running it into the ground. The only element of the park that isn't a disgrace is the animal care side of things.

  19. I was reading through some wikipedia articles on defunct Dreamworld rides as I tend to do from time to time, getting my nostalgia on when I noticed an interesting fact that I probably read before but forgot. Thunderbolt held the record for longest roller coaster in Australia, and despite it being long gone no coaster has ever beat its length. Got me thinking, and forgive me if it's been mentioned, I've read "most" of this post but could have missed it, what if any records will the new Movieworld coaster break? Obviously it's all conjecture at the moment but I could see it breaking that old record of 1,207m. Hopefully, anyway.

  20. Anyone else think SurfRider would look awesome standing where Pirate Ship used to be? Fill in some space behind it, another coaster to replace Sea Viper, and you've got yourself a nice-looking little thrill ride area. Talk about landmark photos, the lake in the foreground would be fantastic I reckon.

  21. I think whatever chance Eureka may have had went out the window last month. If Rocky Hollow closes, as is looking increasingly likely, that corner of the park will need some serious love with 4 SBNO attractions as well as the old Blue Lagoon site.

  22. 1 - It's part of the building still on the map. 2 - You can't exactly just build a fence and pretend the mountain isn't there. 3 - The old queue area provides a nice shady seating area on a hot day. 4 - There's no reason to cover an already SBNO that most people have long given up on.

  23. I agree that it is good at WnW, but personally I think it would've been better at SW.

  25. I hope as much as anyone that dreamworld do fully recover from the TRR accident but to be honest thunder river rapids and the rocky hollow log ride were a few of the only rides I really like - went to dreamworld for so I really do not have any reason to go to dreamworld now I will see what attractions they may replace these rides with in the future before I feel like going to dreamworld again just my honest reactions to the TRR accident

  27. Ok, no one else has said it yet, and as much as I'd like to, this isn't going to help make friends in the right places, but IMO it has to be said. Dick move Sea World. There are 364 other days in a year. Why did you have to release this to the media on a day like today? It's one thing to announce a new coaster the day before/of/after the opening of the Lego store down the road (for example), but to put out a statement like this on the day that Dreamworld reopened after such a tragic event? Not cool. This was a day that the theme park industry and community should have come together as one to show their support for the reopening of a park. Regardless of which park or how much of a competitor they are. I'm honestly a little disappointed to not have seen photos of any of the management team from any VRTP park showing their support at Dreamworld. (Apologies if they were there and I just haven't come across any mention of it.)

  28. I'm glad someone still has some optimism, really I haven't seen anything that would make me suspect anything good is coming. I'm still utterly blown away that they just closed the ride and said the replacement was 3 years away.

  29. 2019? 3 years away? That's taking the piss. How much damage are you happy to do to your name in the next 3 years? It's desperate enough that they need to hire a couple of traveling rides and set them up for a couple years in the field next to Jet Rescue. Also FWIW I don't think Surfrider is really worth the effort to move, I think it's a good fit at WnW, and rather than move it, I might be alone in this, but I'd like to see that water park line be blurred a little be more to set WnW apart from all the other new water parks popping up.

  30. My thoughts: *Most of the early school holiday traffic is driven by late pre-teens and teens, none of whom would have made the trip this weekend with no thrill rides operating. I wasn't expecting to see a line of 40 kids just off schoolies lining up for the Big Red Car, were you?? *most working parents don't have annual leave for the whole of the holidays, so the second last weekend before Xmas = shopping time *weather was overcast & fairly lousy *sure, some people won't be back for a while, but they make up a small minority I believe.

  31. 2019? Is that the earliest ever announcement for a future attraction? The last time SW announced something 2 years in advance we all went Wild for what is, 4 years later, still a vacant plot of reclaimed land...

  33. Very pleased to hear SW moving forward to announce plans for a major new attraction, however a 2019 opening is a tad outrageous given how long the Park has had to wait already. I desperately hope there are plans for at least two new flats in the mean time and I'm totally in favour of @Jobe suggestion to bring over WnW's Surf rider at the absolute least. The Wild Wave Galaxy Mouse ride was always a huge hit back in the day.. 1 thrill & 1 family ride are needed as a bare minimum over the next 2 years and can be done inexpensively.

  35. Thats great to know that they have got plans to replace it with something, even if it is a couple of years away. I just hope the park installs something new next year, otherwise a couple of years with the storm, jet rescue and kids rides, I personally don't think is a smart idea.

  36. Have just got back from Dreamworld after a pleasant morning wandering around the park. Such a different environment without the sound of coasters or Tower running in the background... more like Currumbin. The thing that made a huge impression on us was the incredibly welcoming attitude of everyone working today... genuinely pleased to be open again... the staff were great. I think opening the park this morning without the rides was actually a good idea. The park had the right balance of laughter, solemnity and fun needed to avoid any more bad press and in this, Craig Davidson, Deborah Thomas and the team made a good call (we were able to tell them this as they spent most of the day around the fountain and they were more than pleased to chat with everyone). Dreamworld will recover... the crowds will come back and people will move on.

  40. I would very much like to see both DW and SW take immediate steps with a reputable flume manufacturer to install a replacement. Every dry park needs some sort of water attraction - especially on the gold coast!

  43. There is a growing trend towards mega-threads relating to parks which we want to address to try and curb. Threads should wherever possible be devoted to a single project/topic/debate/discussion. All-encompassing threads like "<Theme Park Name> Updates" really become unmanageable after a while. Ideally we'll like to see the current crop of these threads slowly become replaced. Though it's a fairly easy way to share thoughts, content or information, they're really not a useful way to function long-term and makes it really hard for anyone who doesn't follow the forums on a regular basis, which is the vast majority of the Parkz audience. Threads will always veer off-course from time to time. This is fine. If it veers too much off the original topic we'll split it off into its own thread. As a really simple set of guidelines: Don't be afraid to start a new topic. Don't chastise others for starting a new topic... if it's a duplicate just let us know. If it hasn't been talked about before and isn't related to what's already being discussed it should be in its own topic, even if it's a fairly minor thing. Tag the new topic with the park's name and anything else relevant, which gives great sorting/filtering abilities. If it's really minor, or just a funny observation or side comment then sure, post it in an existing topic relating to that park/ride/etc. Else the Chit Chat forum is the place for unrelated ‘nonsense’. Don't start an open-ended or vague topic like "<Theme Park Name> Updates". When construction ends on a project, and you wish to share a review, thoughts etc., start a new topic for this purpose. At the end of the day, even if it's a somewhat boring topic ("Sea World replacing a foot bridge!"), it makes more sense to have it off in a thread of its own that only gets a few posts, rather than mixed in with half a dozen other concurrent topics in one mega-thread.

  44. Whether or not you are POP, maybe this isn't the right place for you to be. Parkz is meant to be a positive place to talk about theme parks, not disrespect them like you are. If you are so anti-Dreamworld go join the angry people from the GP who would agree with you and stop wasting our time by reading about every problem you have with the Dreamworld incident.

  46. Of course the turnout wasnt flat out terrible (even though it was pretty close to terrible), people still have their passes they can use lol. I guess we will see in a year's time when the passes run out whether or not it's going to have a future. They'd want to have a massive ride announcement by that time or it'll be game over.
