Levithian
Green lantern is apparently being repainted, so it probably explains the long closure.Ā I cant remember ever seen the arms come off doomsday during annual maintenance? I wonder how long they have on the transmission/gearbox between overhauls as the ride would be roughly 4 years old when it goes down for maintenance.Ā

aaronm
Depending on how the track is holding up, would it be out of the question for Vekoma to come in and replace the trains, ride controls, motors etc? They are still building new SLCs (albeit with more comfortable trains these days) and it would certainly cost less than replacing the ride. Gazza
I dunno if there is some reference I am missing, but Lightning Rod does not use Kumbak trains, nor does it have anything to do with the Gold Coast.

It may or may not have been the reason for the closure, but it was definitely the reason for the NDT that identified the microcracks. As such, I don't believe the Kumbak trains had anything to do with the closure, and I was attempting (with humor - as Sea Viper obviously became a lightning rod at one point) to point out that it would be coincidence if Arkham was to close, rather than any fault of Kumbak as (presumably jokingly) suggested by Pin. Since we're getting into it, the bogeys and hangers for Arkham are the original Vekoma "purple" train stock, so unlikely that Kumbak's work with Arkham has caused any issues either. #coincidence Edited January 22, 2020 by AlexB

Levithian
What is it? 8 years since the kumback upgrade? You could hardly say it killed the ride after the conversion given the time span.Ā I guess what do you define as a serious crack? One that occurs largely due to fatigue and is anticipated;Ā Or one that shouldnt occur, but has, and everyone freaks out about it? One probably happens frequently enough its dealt with and repaired to a standard or procedure, the other probably grounds a ride until the manufacturer can work out wtf happened and put a fix in place. You wouldnt need vekoma to come in for pretty much anything other than control systems I imagine. A motor is a motor. Theres plenty of people that specialise in that locally. Changing the control systems though I imagine is akin to having kumback replace the lower section of the train. Someone doing it is going to have to take on all the risk, so you probably cant just google someone local for an upgrade.Ā Edited January 22, 2020 by Levithian

DaptoFunlandGuy
All the info I have says the park is trying to do what they can to reopen, but that doesn't mean it will. Like we saw with Sea Viper, Wipeout and ToT, if the issues that require resolving are more expensive than they think it is worth, then it won't reopen.

joz
Police Academy and Gremlins and Batman all closed TO be replaced with something though. Like I'll give you Tunes because it just closed with no idea of a replacement, but if the game is just to list things that have closed, then a full list is on the database.
