  1. Yep going to add an excerpt and some photos you guys might enjoy. If you want to read the rest of my ramblings and swearing, you can go to that other place with the things.

  2. This review and experience is purely based on the soft opening on 16 September 2017. (No photos as there's plenty of time for those later) Front Row: While the back row is great, and more on that later, nothing IMO will beat the experience of riding this hypercoaster in the front row. Not only do you get the unobstructed views of everything, but you get the full eye watering force of the wind in your face and a good look at the track and theming on the train. Rating: 10/10 - Would definitely do again given the chance. Backwards: 100% worth the money. The forces seem a decent amount stronger when riding backwards. It's $10 for a backwards seat. I spent $30 on day one. Would have been a lot more if there were more hours in the day. Going up the lift hill, and throughout a lot of the ride, the only thing holding you down is the OTSR. That's an incredible feeling I haven't experienced on anything other than a flying coaster before. Rating: 10/10 - Time to start saving. Theming: There's not much, which is as expected, but what's there is good. Much like the coaster itself, it's big and it's bold and bright. In saying that, it would have been nicer to see something similar to what's in the DC Villains area. For me, there was also a couple of things with the theming I didn't like. Firstly, and this is very little so doesn't detract from my overall opinion of the ride, the DC Rivals sign just to the left of the queue. The sign itself is nice and will make great photos, but whatever cleaning product they used on day one left it all covered in white streaks. They're going to need stainless steel cleaner or something less streaky. The other things I would have liked (which I have docked a couple of points for) would have been something on the ceiling of the station. Ideally that would be themed hero/villain mannequins hanging in fighting poses. If not that, even just a nice coloured ceiling. Just something other than a plain ceiling really. Finally, the positioning of the test seat. Why put it part way through the queue when you can almost guarantee for the next several months the queue will snake out long past the test seat and back towards the GL queue if not further. There's plenty of space back in the entry area/courtyard. Rating: 8/10 - It's almost there, but just missing that last little kick which would make it great, and the test chair is in a stupid spot. Load/Unload: Maybe it was because it was day 1 and everyone was really keen to be involved, but the loading and unloading procedures were some of the best I've seen at an Australian park. The next bunch of guests would be staged at the gates before the train made it back to the station, even when they were running two trains. Everyone was in and out very quickly and there was no waiting for the last ride to clear the station before opening the air gates. The item drop is well positioned and works well. I have high hopes of this procedure and speed staying for quite some time given that the ride will be popular for years and they'll want to push through as many people as they can so the lines don't get too long. I really hope we don't hit off season and see them drop back to 3 ride ops (1x Control, 2x platform). Rating: 10/10 - Let's hope it stays that way. Staff: Huge credit to the opening day crew. They were super friendly, happy and genuinely looked to be enjoying their jobs and excited to be working on the ride. They were always smiling and chatting with guests and they really helped add to the excitement and atmosphere of the opening. Rating: 10/10 - Excellent staff. Ride Experience: The ride just does not let up from start to finish. There's constant speed, thrills, airtime and excitement. You do get thrown around a decent amount, but the seats are comfy and there doesn't really seem to be any violent head banging or anything. The ride is incredibly smooth and silent. I've never been on a coaster this close to construction before so I don't know if this is fairly standard for coasters or if this is really something special. Will be interesting to see how it ages over the next few years. Rating: 10/10 - Would ride again. Overall: There is nothing in Australia that's going to beat this for a very long time, if ever. I can't personally see Dreamworld investing in anything that comes even close to this and it doesn't make sense for VRTP to invest in something this large to compete with themselves for a good decade or more. This is truly hands down the best coaster in Australia and in my opinion would rank very highly among the worlds' top coasters. Rating: 9.6/10 - I don't care if the math doesn't work. It's not a perfect score because of the theming and the test seat position. The ride itself though would get a 10/10. Personal Top 3: Tatsu (SFMM), Rivals (WBMW), Ghostrider (KBF). While Rivals is an excellent coaster, for me there's just something unique about flying coasters that can't be beaten.

  4. DW had too many open and operating rides so they had to close Vintage Cars again. Can't have too many of their rides running at once, that might cost money.

  5. 1. General Public - no benefits/early access for passholders (as of right now) 2. You enter the queue to the left of the large rival fight scene, go around to the right and you reach the queue split (there is a test seat here) - General Admission goes off to the left through all of the scenes while Fast Track, Reverse Seating and Single Riders go off to the right. 3. Yes, all but one of the comic book scenes are visible from the Fast Track/Single/Backwards queue area. 4. There is some very 'typical' fight-style music playing in the queue and station. (I don't know how else to explain it) 5. Hope not 6. Dispatches are somewhat typical for our parks. Not the fastest but they're certainly not slow either. (Staff on today were amazing-interacting with guests, just generally excited) 7. Can't answer this for sure but I am sure Mack officials will be on standby for the next few weeks until the ride is fully worn in. 8. Just at the queue entrance. Can't miss it -they've got a bright fuschia sign for it and a few staff there. (however I'm sure this will be moved to the Photo/Video/Fast Track booth at the front during offpeak) 9. I'm sure they could've designed some large 360 degree interactive for the queue, however, with the current scenes there's no way they could comfortably fit something in without it looking out of place or like an afterthought. 10. Not me, already ridden it 6 times --- Row 10, Left seat (direction of travel) is easily the best seat on the ride; and Rivals beats out Twisted Colossus taking top spot as my favourite coaster. -- To answer some other questions: Currently only running one train. Backwards seating is $10 and operates on a return-time system. Loose item storage is available at the load platform [Enough space for small items like coins up to a fairly large backpack]

  6. WOW. I rode in the 4th row & all I can say is HOLY #%$! The Airtime, the speed, the first drop. Omg. This ride is WORLD CLASS!!! Here is my experience of the ride. - The lift hill is really fast & got me by surprise how fast it actually was - The first drop is amazing! Would definitely love to ride further back to see how intense it is in the back few rows - The first Airtime hill is awesome! Heaps of airtime (more than I was expecting) - The NIL is crazy & twisty. Also a good pop of airtime! - Stengel dive, probably one of the weakest parts of the ride but still good fun. - The Dive Turn was awesome, so intense! - S-Bend was super fast & the change of direction is awesome. (Similar to Jet Rescue) - The small airtime hill was good. Not a huge amount of airtime but still good! - Helix was super intense & you can definetly feel the G's!!! - The bunny hills got me by surprise, especially the first one!! I think the first bunny hill offers one of the most insane airtime moments I've ever experienced! Was going to go for a 2nd ride however the line was very long at this point & they were only running 1 train. This ride is absolutely incredible & is a great addition for Movieworld & Australia!! I honestly feel like this is one of the best roller coasters in the world. I'm not gonna say you have to ride this but ..YOU NEED TO RIDE THIS!!! To finish off here are a few photos I took on my phone.

  7. Want to ask if it's operating today? This is the place... no guarantees you'll get an answer though. If you are at Movie World and can report that it's running, delayed, temporarily closed, how long the queue is or if it's one or two train operation then please share... even if no one asks.

  8. Im still counting on a wooden giga dive coaster themed to dippin' dots. Would be a fantastic investment, and please many of the members in the Parkz community.

  9. You have reminded me of another positive point I intended to include in my earlier post, which is the smoothness of the ride. Very noticeably smoother than any other coaster I've been on! I totally get that it's a hypercoaster, and it most definitely has its place in the park, as proven by how many people were waiting for it. Just saying it's not really one of my favourite kinds of ride. Still good though.

  12. Just met a few Parkz members. Enjoy, everyone! I believe I just had a religious experience. Backwards is magical. I know this track by heart from the construction thred, yet was still blown away by the G's everywhere, especially in the snappy turns, and I agree with the posts before me - airtime in the back seat is insane, especially the bunny hops! Felt like I was being thrown out the back of a ute going over a crest. I also like the dips in the helix, those G's felt great in reverse. 2 Trains running!

  13. DC Rivals HyperCoaster is Australia's best ride ever Make no mistake about it: Warner Bros. Movie World have delivered a roller coaster that is undeniably one of the best in the world. The ride ticks every box and delivers a level of sheer thrills and sustained excitement that is unlike anything ever before built in Australia. Click here to continue reading

  14. Arkham Asylum and Hotwheels are precisely the type of rides I don't like - they're head-ache makers. So if someone likes AA over DCR then that tells me all I need to know.

  16. Yes and no. In the queue you see the lift hill and the train in the block brake/brake run. on 2 train days outside of holidays, you won't queue long. Yes, a fair bit quicker. When I was in that queue, you'd see 2-3 single riders per train get on.
    2 points
  17. They have wait times listed, yes. Single rider quickest at the moment. They're getting quicker at cycling the trains, although you do have a short wait in the brake run (a chance to catch your breath). Just rode forward mid train. Fantastic ride in that direction too! If anything the Stengel Dive is a fraction of a second to catch your breath. The view of the track (below you and far away) from the lift hill is amazing. The black fence in the GL queue rumbles as Rivals comes back through the bunny hops. My my day is done, rode twice. Off to family thing now.

  18. Have been at the park since 9am. Got my first ride on rivals at around 3pm after it opened. 4th ride of the day. Also finished up on the very last ride of the day in the front row about 5:20pm or so. There's not even words that can describe the coaster. Back is worth the money through.

  20. @Theme Park I wouldn't got as low as describing Movieworld as 'Australia's answer to Six Flags'. But at this point in time, I would say it sits firmly in between a Cedar Fair park and a Universal park.

  24. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, @pushbutton, even if you know they'll be in the minority regarding 'best on the coast'. I didn't get enough time to pay attention to the theming myself (Backwards / Single rider lines), but my thoughts on better theming were raised late in the construction thread. To be brutally honest, this is a Hypercoaster. The ride is the attraction, not the theming. I know this exact discussion was raised in a few threads over the last year, but after riding it, I'm now in the camp of anything other than the ride is a bonus. Ask me that again in a few months, maybe I'll change my views. AA is horrifically rough, and even though I've not done the VR I can't rate it for the pain it causes.

  25. Well, I was in the queue yesterday as they were preparing to open, but unfortunately the person I was with felt ill so we had to leave without going on! Anyway I was back again this morning by myself and did go on (forwards). Below are my first thoughts: - DC Rivals certainly adds a major new visual element, extremely obvious at the front of the park before going in (and even from the motorway), and visible from most parts of Movie World. - I found the ride certainly provided moderate thrills, with a good length of ride time, and enough capacity to absorb large numbers of guests fairly quickly (assuming both trains running, which they were this morning). - Personally (although I know I'll get downvoted or whatever as usual by people who assume their opinion is the only one that is right) I regard it as just a roller coaster, with hardly any relevance to Movies beyond the characters visible in the queue as flat images, and the Joker Head which is mainly visible from outside the park (the right way around). To me the ride is not a patch on Arkham Asylum with VR, which I still say is the best ride on the Gold Coast. I await the usual criticisms from the sort of people noted above, but rest assured I really couldn't care less about them!

  27. Just got to ride for the first time in row 10. Absolutely incredible, and those last hills have to be some of the best parts. The single rider queue is definitely the way to it, and obviously Slick and a few others feel the same

  33. I was the lucky person to be the first member of the GP to ride backwards (Brother and I can be seen on the second train out of the station in the video posted earlier. The first train was primarily filled with VRTP Exec's family members). The coaster has already been summed up beautifully by the previous comments so I'll just say this. This is the single best roller coaster that I have personally been on and riding backwards first was the best decision I have ever made. Backwards was the most amazing way to experience DCR and I cannot wait to try it again.

  35. just going to put it simple why I no longer care to visit there theme parks they removed all of the family friendly rides we all grew up with and have mostly replaced them with roller coasters I don't give a toss about roller coasters so until they start thinking about those who are not big fans of roller coasters they have lost me witch I'm sure they don't care about because I'm only one person

  36. Here's my thoughts, their more towards what the coaster impacts now the coaster itself. The coaster itself, you can easily see why it cost so much, you can tell it is a brand new coaster and is so smooth and enjoyable, it is truly indescribable. I am glad they added storage, I think if they add storage for Superman, it will make a lot of people happy. I honestly think this was a big blow to dreamworld, I am not going to renew their now as their isn't enough going on, where Movie World offers so much, and this coaster is worth the purchase of a pass alone.

  38. Was on the back row on the 4th train... and holy crap it was amazing. Then later on got the front row... was awesome too. Then went in row 10 (last forward row) and the airtime was just insane. Hands down the best coaster i've been on, and great job to Village Roadshow. Greg looked happy operating it today haha.

  41. My opinion is that primarily through a lack of competition or incentive, our parks, by far and large haven't really needed to or warranted supporting their enthusiast/loyalist community. However, the US theme parks are a hugely different situation entirely. My belief is because there's more competition at every level for them, there's an incentive over there to be above the curve in their marketing tactics and as such find it super important to really reach out to their most loyal customers. And let me tell you, every marketer ever knows that book 1, chapter 1, page 1 is all about engaging your brand's most loyal customers (here's just two from a sea of thousands of articles explaining just that) and ultimately that's where i'd like to see our parks in the future as a collective. US theme parks do regular Extended Ride Time (ERT) Events, behind the scenes walkthroughs designed specifically for our sort of crowd, do Q&A's with their design teams & most important of all, work with the key influencers/sites to ensure the right message has been delivered and the best possible content is being made to build their followings. That is where we should be in Australia in 2017. Every other niche group in any other industry will get this sort of stuff (especially in Australia), whether it's cars, photography, trains, drones, architecture, civil engineering etc. etc. etc., and yet here I am with OurWorlds, pounding away at emails just trying to get point of view video on Rivals that I know will generate heaps of great, free publicity for Movie World, and I gotta say, i'm still hitting a brick wall. And it's not like i'm not known for point of video footage either, i'd like to think that despite whatever critical opinion I may have at any given time that may off-put some execs, by and large the hundreds, if not thousands of hours I personally pour into real, honest, quality content (content that in the particular case of the Rivals HyperCoaster, gets used in their shareholder reports, no less) is worth at least a g'day. And this makes it really hard for me, because to make good content, it's a two-way street, because i'm certainly not going to pull a Robb Alvey and start sneaking cameras onto rides either and put content out there that suggests breaking the park's rules is okay. Like seriously, I have literally been served a lobster lunch in return for my roller-coaster videos. And yeah, granted, there's more then a few numpties who call themselves enthusiasts, and I think that's also par for the course in any group. I certainly don't think same sex marriage is anything but a must in this country, and that's despite a very few super-leftie, hippie marxist types making it hard for there to be a rational, calm discussion about it with those who may have concerns. So in my mind, just because @Andrewh did the wrong thing a while back and jumped into a closed off part of Dreamworld, doesn't then mean that we're all a bunch of crazies who just want a scoop. Nah, I actually think by and large we're all pretty well rounded folk who enjoy a beer and a laugh at our favourite places, and if they followed in the steps of their global counterparts on proven methods to make these prime digital audiences work to their advantage, they would be saving literally hundreds of thousands of dollars every year in ad-buys alone. As for outside of the parks, the reception is always pretty interesting. For me, my DNA is pretty entrenched in theme parks so most people know that it comes with the package. When my father passed when I was a wee lad, theme parks were a literal escape into another world. When I would go to theme parks, I'd take hundreds of pictures on every trip and unbeknownst to me at the time, I was actually refining a skill i'd use later in my professional career. So I owe a lot to theme parks, but in saying that, I try to keep it pretty chill. Just like people don't want to know the psi of your fully sick turbo, people don't want know how the LSM's on Tower of Terror's launch work. Some people will ride kiddie coasters and chase credits so they can say "I did 6000 coasters!", and that's cool too, to each their own. These days theme parks for me are all about great experiences, and when it comes to travelling, they're a great waypoint to craft an adventure from, but they're not the only reason to travel abroad either. Just as an aside, I say all of this with no animosity - i'm a frank, honest guy these days and given my own personal passion for these places, really all of this comes from a place of wanting to see the parks succeed and really grow in the future.
